101 Music has two storefronts. One is on Grant Avenue and the other is the 513 Green Street address. The Green Street shop is filled with misc audio crap on the ground floor and a basement with an ocean of records to dig through. I can pretty much guarantee you’ll find some things you’ll want. $5 each.
The Grant Avenue shop is new and ver…[Read more]

If you’ll send me your e-mail address, I’ll add you to our mailing list. I send out very few notices. My personal e-mail is:
We rehearse a couple times a month. Most of our performances are for private affairs – weddings, parties, college commencement ceremonies, corporate events and the like. We do have a semi-public dat…[Read more]

I attended Lowell High School in San Francisco during the late 1960’s. As a trumpet player I played in the concert band, orchestra and game band. We did not march at all, but just sat in the stands and played during football and basketball games. I have a number of records that were made of our high school orchestra back then. I believe he…[Read more]

It’s absolutely amazing how good the sound can be when you build it yourself. And because you built it yourself, you’re much more involved in the listening experience. Don’t miss the steam punk loudspeakers built b…[Read more]

Hi Mark!
The Linkwitz Orion system uses an active electronic crossover. It calls for 4 channels of amplification, at 60 wpc, on each side, for a total of 8 channels. The B&K AV1260 amp has 12 channels, of which I use 8. I suppose I could use eight Mac 60’s, or 8 Marantz 8B amps, strapped in triode mode, but could you imagine my power bi…[Read more]

Far too much of audiophile attention is on gear and tweaks that are far beyond what most of us who actually work for a living can afford. They leave you feeling unsatisfied because no matter how good your system is or how carefully you’ve chosen your gear, someone has told you it’s not good enough and you’re fool enough to believe…[Read more]

I work in the SF Financial District. I popped into a record store the other day I think y’all should know about. It’s on Green Street, near Grant Avenue. Down in the basement they have an ocean of records to look through. Everything is $5. I picked up a rare recording of Bill Hardman, who was a trumpet player that worked with Art Blakey and…[Read more]

If you live in Central Marin and have history with hands-on speaker building, you would do yourself a favor if you paid a visit to Siegfried Linkwitz, who lives in Corte Madera. Heck. You could probably step out on your porch, throw a rock and hit his car.
Siegfried’s systems are outrageously wonderful and extremely affordable. Hi-end fo…[Read more]

Here’s the buying card from the Hi-Fi Game. Note that it lists wattage ratings for the loudspeakers and that the more expensive the loudspeaker, the higher the wattage rating.
