I am very happy to announce that Joe Hakim, a member from the South Bay, has just accepted the invitation to join the SFAS Leadership Team as Director of Audio Engineering, a title we’ll have to tweak because it simply doesn’t convey the depth of his experience and skills. Joe is a great guy and becoming a friend to many of us, which makes our team even more fun!
Here’s a brief background on Joe:
“I grew up in a European household, having been raised in Paris, Montreal, and Los Angeles and am fluent in French and English as a consequence. My earliest introduction to music was through my mother who loved classic French and English artists like Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf, Englebert Humperdinck, Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, etc.. My own tastes evolved listening to the great rock and folk artists of the 60s and 70s.
An Electrical Engineer by training, my interest in electronics and audio started at a young age – when I was a teenager, I pestered my mother for weeks until she finally gave in and bought me a Marantz receiver – it had the horizontal gyro tuning wheel. I thought that was the coolest thing ever! After that, I was hooked on audio gear and continued to acquire various components throughout my high school and college days.
From an early age, I’ve really enjoyed tinkering with and building electronics and though I haven’t had much time for that these days, I look forward to being able to do a lot more of it when I retire.
Apart from audio and electronics, I enjoy photography, travel, hiking, and motorcycle riding.
I’m very excited to be joining the great SFAS leadership team and for the opportunity to leverage my engineering background in the pursuit of our mutual passion.”
