Warpaint – “The Fool”, by Larry Deniston

My music pick is Warpaint’s The Fool, RTRADLP580 produced by Rough Trade Records in 2010.  It’s always fun to be introduced to some new music, new to me at least!  We were talking music with some friends of my son’s generation, 30-something youngsters, and they asked if I’d heard of Warpaint. Well, I hadn’t, but thanks to Tidal I checked ’em out and found them quite engaging.  They’re a Los Angeles quartet playing sparse, ethereal rock.  It’s also called “atmospheric art rock” and “shoe gazing” music.  Warpaint originally consisted of sisters Jenny Lee Lindberg and Shannyn Sossamon (on bass and drums, respectively), as well as Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman on vocal and guitar. Sossamon left due to conflicts with her acting schedule and was replaced by Stella Mozgawa.  The Fool is Warpaint’s first full length album release.  It’s well recorded and fun to listen to.
