The Muse – September 2018 SFAS Newsletter

Sep 17, 2018

We’re getting closer to the new SFAS website launch! We’re shooting for
September 10, but before we launch the new site we’ll need to shut down
the current site from September 6 – 9. This will give us time to transition
some content and conduct functionality testing. Once the new site is up
and running we’ll still need to incorporate additional content. Please do
let us know your thoughts and comments.

Website Update
I know you’ve all been wondering “when is the SFAS going to update our website?” Well, we have great news for you! We’ve hired a very talented web designer who is not only working to refresh the look and feel of our website, but will also implement some changes to our event registration, The Muse newsletter, and forums to encourage website visits along with improved member participation and member connections. We’re working hard to improve your experience with SFAS and, as always, would love to hear from you.

It’s the Journey, Not the Destination By Larry Deniston
How many times have you heard the phrase “it’s the journey, not the destination”? To me it’s a great way to approach life and HiFi. While “the journey” isn’t always foremost in my consciousness when doing my day to day activities, I do like to stop and think about it from time to time – it keeps me a little more grounded. And I need that reminder especially when there’s a bump in the road or there’s a new piece of equipment that seems to be calling my name.

The Muse – JUNE 2018 SFAS Newsletter

Jun 01, 2018

The last few weeks in California’s high-end audio arena have been, to say the least, interesting. Appropriately, we’ll start off this issue with a relevant article by SFAS Vice-President Larry Deniston on his experience of attending audio shows, as well as some updates on upcoming events.

The Muse – MAY 2018 SFAS Newsletter

Well, to say that our event with Michael Fremer was a great success would be an understatement. About 60 SFAS members joined us in our new venue in the conference room of the Hilltop Mall in Richmond, which Leslie has generously configured for presentations and music, just what we needed! We can probably fit almost 100 attendees in this space and there is no problem with parking! We can now grow our ranks of members without fearing any wear and tear at Leslie’s home.

The Muse – APRIL 2018 SFAS Newsletter

Apr 01, 2018

This issue of The Muse is massive. Packed with all kinds of audiophile-friendly articles, event announcements, rants, tech talk, humor and music picks. We’re leading this newsletter with a remarkable article by the indefatigable David Hicks. In it, David shares his knowledge and research into audiophile history. I found it quite fascinating. This is very timely, since he also informs us that April actually is International Audiophile History month! Coincidence?

2018 MARCH SFAS Muse Newsletter

Mar 01, 2018

Send in My Secretary. Okay, if the truth be told, I don’t have a secretary. Perhaps this is a good thing. There’ll be no Harvey Weinstein style events associated with my musings for the Muse. On the other hand, I would love to have someone keep me more organized. I can get my own coffee, but if I had someone who could keep my records organized and flip the record over on the turntable when that’s needed while I’m busy doing other things. Oh, and if she could proof read the things I write for the Muse…

2018 February SFAS Muse Newsletter

Feb 01, 2018

The Answer is Yes-On this topic, I’ll be as brief as this opening paragraph. I Always feel like I’m climbing up on a soap box when I write something about all members of the SFAS being encouraged to submit music recommendations or new toy write ups. It is mentioned in every newsletter we send out. And yet, at our recent Nakamichi event, one of our members said to me how much they enjoyed reading the Muse each month, and asked if it would ever be possible for them to submit a music recommendation or a write up on a piece of equipment! Perhaps it’s just selective reading? You read the meat of the piece, and skip over the fine print? Possibly. This is not the first time someone has asked me a question about a detail that was mentioned in our newsletter that they said they’d read, and I’m sure it won’t be the last…

2018 January SFAS Muse Newsletter

New Year’s Resolution? In the past, I haven’t made New Year’s resolutions. That may explain my expanding waistline. But let me ask you, if New Year’s resolutions are made
with the intent to instigate change, why not start when you first have the idea for change? Why wait until January 1st? Well, if you’re talking about losing change? …
