2017 February SFAS Newsletter

Feb 01, 2017

A bit of news to share with you… Over the next few weeks, I’ll be having an operation to fix a condition that I’ve been dealing with for many years. It’s put me in the hospital twice over the last decade, the latest episode being last week, as I found myself spending three lovely days at Marin General. I’m in really good hands, so I’m not worried.

2017 January SFAS Newsletter

Jan 01, 2017

2017. It sounds like a date from science fiction… and it feels like we’re airborne, in the midst of another leap into the future. The advent of driverless taxi cabs; robots roaming hospital hallways replenishing supplies; helicopter drones delivering groceries to our doorstep… what’s happening is, at the very least, fascinating.

2016 December SFAS Newsletter

It’s a bit hard to believe it’s December. This year flew by…Let’s start with an update on our main venue: The newly renovated room we lovingly call Leslie’s Audiophile Garage is almost complete, with sound treatments being applied as they come in. Her ever-improving system sounds great in this new space, with lots more air, and instruments that anchor more

2016 November SFAS Newsletter

Nov 01, 2016

This is an exciting time for SFAS… On Saturday, November 12th we are scheduled to welcome members to the Grand Re-opening of our main venue, Leslie’s Audiophile Garage. Of course, behind the scenes, w e’re beseeching the Gods of Audio Room Renovation for completion of this project in time for the big event. It may be close, but Leslie thinks we’ll make it! Here’s a recent photo of the progress at the site. What you see is just the new addition, the room extends deeper to the left, toward the main house. It’s not pretty yet, but it will be soon!

2016 October SFAS Newsletter

Oct 01, 2016

Happy Autumn! Here’s the latest progress report on the construction of our main venue: Leslie’s Audiophile Garage is steadily taking its new and expanded shape. In tackling the ceiling and roofing stage, Leslie has called in veteran SFAS member and room-correction engineer Manny LaCarrubba to insure the sound in this large new room will be worthy of your audiophile ears. More pictures showing the progression are posted on the web site,

2016 September SFAS Newsletter

Sep 01, 2016

Progress. Well, it looks like the foundation for Leslie’s expanded Audiophile Garage is about done, and according to plan, the crews should be going vertical about now. Estimated completion time for the project is end of September… we hope. We’re all excited to see and hear the new space that we’ll use for many of our SFAS events. Leslie’s powerful system will finally have some room to breathe, which I expect will give us much enhanced imaging and soundstage as well as a sense of ease and naturalness in the music (except maybe when she plays that Unfleshed album she loves so much 😉

2016 May SFAS Updates

May 01, 2016

As I was brushing my teeth this morning, my new electric toothbrush was monitoring my every move, displaying my progress on a small wireless outboard display which shows my path to the sometimes elusive 2-minute mark for optimum dental hygiene, and serving also as an unassuming bathroom clock. If that weren’t enough, this thing simultaneously broadcasts the data collected about my brushing prowess through Bluetooth to an App on my iPhone!
